(Yes, really. Zombies have A LOT to share!)
This Halloween, I thought we’d have a little fun and take a cue from the zombies. Yep, you read that right. Turns out, these creepy creatures can actually teach us a thing or two about building stronger websites.
Here are 3 lessons straight from the zombie playbook:
1. Zombies are persistent!
Zombies don’t mess around. They’ve got one goal (brains), and they will not stop until they get it.
Your website should have the same kind of focus — minus the gore. Every page needs one clear purpose and one clear call to action. When you try to cram in everything at once, your visitors get confused and leave.
Think about it like this:
About Page
Purpose: show your visitors who you are and how you can help.
People aren’t scrolling through your degrees or certifications — they’re looking for connection. Share what makes you uniquely qualified to serve them, then guide them toward a clear action (schedule a consult or follow you on social).
Services Page
Purpose: give a quick, compelling overview of what you offer.
This isn’t the place for pages of detail. Highlight your offers in a way that makes people say, “I need this!” and give them a direct next step (book a call, fill out a form, or even take a quick quiz).
Contact Page
Purpose: make it easy to get in touch.
Don’t offer ten different ways to reach you if you’ll only check one. Share the best method and keep it simple.
Bottom line: clarity beats clutter.
2. Zombies Don’t Care What Others Think
Have you ever seen a zombie stop mid-chase to compare outfits with another zombie? Nope. They don’t care what anyone else is doing — they’re focused on their own mission.
That’s exactly the mindset you need for your website. Stop worrying about what competitors are doing, or if your design is as “cool” as theirs. Stop overthinking how you’ll be judged.
Instead, focus on being you. The more your site reflects your personality and your strengths, the more it’s going to attract the right clients.
3. Zombies Are Vulnerable to Destruction
Here’s the scary part: zombies may be persistent, but they’re also easy to take out. Your website’s the same way. If you don’t take care of it, it’s vulnerable to hackers, to glitches, to just plain falling apart.
Good news: website security doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few must-dos to keep your site “alive”:
Use strong passwords
Install an SSL certificate
Choose a secure host
Add a firewall
Scan for malware
Keep backups
Limit failed login attempts
Skip these steps, and your site could end up in the graveyard faster than you think.
A Little Halloween Wrap-Up
Zombies might not be your go-to business role models, but they do get a few things right: persistence, focus, and staying true to their (creepy) goals.
Take a page from their book and keep your website clear, authentic, and secure. That way, instead of scaring visitors away, you’ll invite them in.
