Creating your “About Me” page by Being Relatable

When someone comes to your website, and wants to know more about you, they are looking to connect on a personal level. They aren’t so interested in your story of perfection, or even your personal resume. After all those can both be a little intimidating. They want to know the real you and feel a real connection.

This is why I am always encouraging others to share their story from the heart of who they are, and simply have a conversation as you share you why in a way that is relatable to those looking for what you have to offer.  So today I want to share with you some examples of women who really capture the beautiful person they are.

Check out this Facebook Live Replay where I share three ways you can be relatable from your About Me Page

Video Recap: 3 Ways to be Relatable…

1. Share your Struggle

As I shared a moment ago, it is quite possible that you experienced a pretty big struggle that lead you to an inspiring moment where you decided to launch your business and create incredible change in the world. This is a story worth sharing. And Crystal with Cloud Nine Organizing does this beautifully!

In 2016, I came to the sobering realization that I was stressed. More importantly, I decided to take control of that stress level. I made the deliberate choice to live a decluttered, simplified life. I decluttered my diet, my obligations and my belongings. As a result I became less stressed and happier. This is how my business tag line, Declutter•Destress•Simplify, was born. It’s my mantra, my way of life… Click here to read Crystal’s story.

Crystal spends her days helping other women, especially busy moms deal with the stress of every day life. She helps them simply every aspect of their life from the kitchen to their calendar so they too can begin to feel less stressed and happier. Having been a stressed out mom myself once upon a time, I can completely relate to Crystal’s story because I had this same struggle myself.

2. Be warm and inviting

Sometimes what we are looking for is safety and comfort, and the best way I have found to offer this is to be instantly warm and inviting in your story of why. After all who doesn’t want someone who they know will listen, and help us remember that everything is going to be okay. No does this quite like Micara Link.

While the virtual world can be a wonderful tool for creating connection, a part of me wishes that we were sitting together in a quaint coffee shop sipping something warm and comforting as we got to know each other a bit better. But, here we are, screen to screen, so for the first part of this conversation you’ll have to get to know me before I get the chance to know you… Click here read Micara’s story.

By simply reading the first few sentences of Micara’s about me page, I feel at ease and can imagine myself cozied up in my favorite coffee shop talking about life and feeling better by the minute.

3. Connect through a shared desire

We all have desires in life and yet all to often these desires are hidden inside and kept a secret. Yet when you have someone who is willing to share, and the desire is one you yourself feel, the connection is instant the bond begins to grow. And one of the best examples I have seen is story Chelsea from Underneath the Clothes shares

I want you to know, I see you. I see all that you’re doing to make a difference in this world, provide for your family and make an impact in your community. You, my friend, take care of everyone else first. You’re constantly giving of yourself, working 60+ hours a week and no where near paying yourself what your value is. You know how I know that? Because I used to be in your shoes. But, before we get into that, a little more about me… Click here to read Chelsea’s story

I cannot tell you how many times I have felt invisible. Being a solo entrepreneur there are so many times when I question am I being seen? Do people hear what I have to share? Am I making a difference? And Chelsea helps me say yes to all of those with her very first sentence, “I want you to know, I see you.”

Create the connection your customers a looking for…

When we share our story from the heart, a connection is started. We become more real to those connecting with us, and are in a much better position to make their world a better place.
