Episode Summary:

In this episode, I’m getting real about something we don’t talk about enough—falling out of love with your business. We all start with passion and excitement, but somewhere along the way, things can start feeling more like a grind than a joy. So, what happened? And more importantly, how do we fix it?

I’m diving into the big reasons business owners lose their spark—feeling stuck with no growth, battling imposter syndrome, and dealing with clients who drain the life out of you. But don’t worry, this isn’t just a vent session—I’m also sharing practical ways to reignite your passion, set better boundaries, and bring back the joy in your business. Because let’s be honest—if you’re not loving what you do, something needs to change. Let’s talk about how to make that happen.

What I hope you take away from today's episode...

  • Focusing on love in business is essential for success.
  • Negativity often overshadows the positive aspects of our lives.
  • Imposter syndrome is common among entrepreneurs and can be managed.
  • Not every client is a good fit for your business.
  • It's okay to pivot and change direction in your business.
  • Firing problematic clients can restore joy in your work.

Detailed Show Notes

(automatically transcribed using AI Technology)

This month we’re focusing on Love–Loving our boundaries, our business, our lives and ourselves

And I know this sounds a little hokey and corny, but trust me… if we don’t take the time to intentionally love on the most important areas of our lives – like our boundaries, business, daily life and ourselves – no one else will and the dream we are chasing is just going to get further away.

There seems to be this sense of drudgery surrounding our lives. Just ask someone you, “how are you doing?” and at best you will get “Fine.” and at worst… a laundry list of all the crap happening in their lives.

This is the norm and what we are conditioned to give our attention to. To say, “I am pretty fabulous.” is just weird, but to share your stresses, worries, frustrations and struggles is normal.

Today I want to start to flip the script  on drudgery, particularly in the area of our business and inspire you once again to search for the fun, the magic and the Love by falling back in low with your business.

But first a little bit about me…

I am Teresa Schlup the Original Caffeine Creative and when I am not creating new podcasts you can find me in my day job Crafting Standout Brands. You can learn more about me and my services at caffeinecreative.io, or feel free to reach out to me here through The Solo Grind. In my show notes I have just about every way to reach me and I love hearing from my listeners!

Now its time to set the mood, grab your favorite beverage, set the lights to cozy and comfy and let’s fall back in love with our business.

To start we are going to take a look at why the magic faded…

In researching for this episode I came across a lot of really great reasons

  • Burnout & Overwhelm
  • Losing Sight of Our Why
  • Financial Stress (hello tax season!)
  • And a whole bunch of other reasons

Each one of these can and probably should be an episode in and of itself, but for this episode I am going to focus on 3 that really grabbed my attention

  • Lack of Growth
  • Imposter Syndrome
  • Problem Clients

I am also going to share how each one of these feels so you can more easily recognize it in yourself and reasons why these happen.  I am also going to share how to move beyond it all and fall back in love.

Lack of Growth

You started your business with big dreams, fresh ideas, and a whole lot of passion. But somewhere along the way, things started feeling… stale. Like you're just going through the motions.

How It Feels:
  • Bored. Frustrated. Uninspired.
  • Questioning whether you even want to keep going.
  • Watching others innovate while you feel stuck in neutral.
  • Wondering if maybe you’ve “peaked.”
Why It Happens:
  • Routines Become Ruts: What once felt exciting now feels repetitive. You’re doing the same work, with the same types of clients, and there’s no spark.
  • Fear of Change: Pivoting means risk—what if your audience doesn’t respond well? What if you lose clients? What if it doesn’t work?
  • Lack of Time for Innovation: When you’re caught up in the day-to-day grind, it’s hard to step back and explore new ideas.
  • You’ve Outgrown Your Business Model: The way you started is no longer working for where you are now, but figuring out what’s next feels overwhelming.
How to Break Out of the Rut:
  • Audit Your Business: What do you love doing? What drains you? What excites you? Start identifying where shifts could happen.
  • Experiment with New Offers or Services: You don’t have to overhaul everything—test a small change first.
  • Collaborate or Learn Something New: Sometimes, talking to others or taking a new course can reignite creativity.
  • Give Yourself Permission to Pivot: If something isn’t working, it’s okay to change it. You didn’t build a business to feel stuck.

Comparison & Imposter Syndrome

You log onto Instagram or LinkedIn, and suddenly, everyone else looks like they’ve got it all figured out. Their businesses are booming. They’re landing dream clients. And you? You start questioning everything.

How It Feels:
  • Defeated. Like you’ll never catch up.
  • Overwhelmed by all the “shoulds.”
  • Stuck in a loop of self-doubt.
  • Like maybe you’re not cut out for this after all.
Why It Happens:
  • Highlight Reel vs. Reality: You’re seeing the wins, not the struggles. But your brain convinces you that everyone else is doing better than you.
  • Lack of Self-Recognition: You’ve accomplished a lot, but instead of celebrating it, you focus on what you haven’t done yet.
  • Industry Noise: Everyone is talking about “6-figure months” and “scaling to the next level,” making you feel like you should be doing more.
  • The ‘Not Good Enough’ Loop: No matter what you achieve, it feels like there’s always someone ahead of you.
How to Flip the Script:
  • Mute the Noise: Unfollow or mute accounts that trigger comparison. Focus on your path.
  • Write a ‘Brag List’: List everything you’ve achieved—big or small. Remind yourself of your progress.
  • Reframe Success: Someone else’s wins don’t take away from yours. There’s enough room for everyone.
  • Take Action: When you feel stuck in comparison mode, do something for your business—even a small win helps break the cycle.

Problem Clients & Lack of Boundaries

You started your business to have freedom and joy, but instead, your inbox is full of client demands, unreasonable expectations, and people who don’t respect your time.

How It Feels:
  • Drained. Resentful. Like your business isn’t even yours anymore.
  • Exhausted from keeping clients happy at the cost of your own sanity.
  • Dreading emails and client meetings instead of looking forward to them.
Why It Happens:
  • Fear of Saying No: You don’t want to lose business, so you take on clients you know aren’t the right fit.
  • Scope Creep: A small favor here, an extra request there—before you know it, you’re doing double the work for the same price.
  • Lack of Clear Boundaries: If clients don’t know what’s okay and what’s not, they’ll push limits without even realizing it.
  • People-Pleasing Tendencies: You genuinely want to help, but it’s coming at the expense of your own well-being.
How to Take Back Control:
  • Raise Your Standards: Not every client is worth your energy. Work with people who respect your expertise.
  • Set & Communicate Boundaries: Office hours, response times, revision limits—make them clear upfront.
  • Charge for Extra Work: If a client wants more, they need to pay more. Period.
  • Fire the Draining Clients: It’s scary, but letting go of bad clients makes room for better ones.
