Infusing authenticity into your marketing isn't a trend. It's a commitment to openness, realness, and building relationships that stand the test of time.

When it comes to planning and strategizing your marketing, authenticity is the key to your success. All to often, business focus on what they believe the “should” say or “should” focus on, and this can quickly steer you in a direction you don’t want to go.

But what does authenticity in your marketing look like?

Believe it or not, it has little to do with showcasing a flawless facade; it's more and more about simply being transparent, honest, and relatable.

Think about the businesses and brands you encounter in your day to day life. Are you more likely to connect with and trust the ones who are polished and impersonal? Probably not. We all have stories about how these brands have mislead us and so we are a lot less trusting than we used to be. Which is just one of the reasons why today, we crave genuine connections with real people–simply being transparent, honest, and relatable.

Why Authenticity Matters

As buyers, we are done being sold to and done buying into the glossy ads and cookie-cutter campaigns. We want more. We want a connection, a vibe, a brand we can relate to. And we want to invest in someone we can trust.

This is why it is so important, now more than ever, to show up authentically. When you do so you are building more than brand awareness. It’s about fostering a connection that goes beyond the transaction, and into creating brand loyalty. You are building trust with your audience and this my friend is often what turns one-time buyers into die-hard fans.

Strategies for Infusing Authenticity into Your Marketing…

So how do you infuse authenticity into your marketing? Let’s take a look at three ways to approach this.

Transparency: Why Transparency Matters

The simple truth is that transparency builds trust. In an age where we are all craving authentic connections, being open about your processes, values, and yes, even mistakes, demonstrates integrity.

It shows that you have nothing to hide and are committed to an honest relationship with your customers. And by not portraying a facade of perfection, you are also making yourself more relatable to your audience.

How to Infuse Transparency

Let me say it again... Be open and honest. There is no reason to pretend you are something you are not, and being open and honest is also going to help you set clear boundaries.

By setting clear boundaries you are communicating with the audience how you operate, while also creating a solid foundation on which you can build your business on.

If you make a mistake, own up to it and communicate how you're addressing it. We all make mistakes, and from my own experience, it is the mistakes I have made that have made my business and myself stronger. Learn from the moment, share openly, and move forward.

Share a Glimpse from Behind-the-Scenes

Why a Behind-the-Scenes Look Matters

People connect with people, especially when we can show the beautiful messiness of our daily life. Showing the faces and personalities behind your brand creates a human connection, along with a sense of familiarity. This allows customers to relate with you and your team on a personal level.

How to share your Behind-the-Scenes Content

There are a lot of ways to share a look behind-the-scenes, and one of the best platforms to do this is through your social media accounts. Through social media you can showcase the culture, values, and quirks that make your business unique. This adds authenticity and helps in building a community around your brand.

7 Ways to Share Behind the Scenes:

Meet the Team Series:

Introduce your team members individually through posts or short videos. Share their roles, experiences, and a fun fact about each person. This helps your audience connect with the faces behind your brand.

Story Highlights

Use Instagram or Facebook story highlights to curate behind-the-scenes content. Organize them by themes such as "A Day in the Life," "Team Moments," or "Product Development."

Stage an Employee Takeovers

Allow different employees to take over your social media accounts for a day. They can share their daily routines, responsibilities, and a glimpse into their personalities. This adds a personal touch to your brand.

Exclusive Sneak Peeks

Provide exclusive sneak peeks of upcoming products, projects, or events. This creates anticipation and excitement among your followers.

Bloopers and Outtakes

Share lighthearted and humorous behind-the-scenes moments, such as bloopers and outtakes from photo shoots, videos, or events. This humanizes your brand and adds authenticity.

Day-in-the-Life Blog Posts

Write blog posts detailing a day in the life of different team members or departments. Share the challenges, successes, and unique aspects of their work.

Live Videos

Host live sessions to showcase day-to-day operations. This could include live Q&A sessions, product demonstrations, or a tour of your workspace. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook are great for live video streaming.

Showcase Real Experiences and Testimonials from Your Customers

Why Real Experiences and Testimonials Matter

Your customers are your best advocates, and their feedback adds a layer of authenticity by showcasing real experiences and opinions. It's not just you saying how great your services are; it's your customers affirming it.

The stories they share are pure gold in marketing and often the tipping point a potential customer needs to make the call and start working with you. Make the most of these golden nuggets by sharing them freely and frequently.

How to Infuse Real Experiences and Testimonials

You can do this by strategically scattering the best snippets throughout your website, as well as sharing some of the lengthier testimonials through social media.

To get this content you are going to have to actively seek out testimonials! Encourage customers to share their experiences through Google reviews, testimonials, or social media posts.

And yes I know that actively seeking feedback can be a little scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Check out this blog post: Want to Boost Business? Start Gathering Testimonials, for tips on gathering customer experiences and testimonials.

Remember… You are marketing more than a service

Embracing authenticity isn't just a marketing strategy; it's a cultural shift that resonates with your audience. Remember you are not just marketing a product or service; you are creating a genuine connection with your audience.

As I said at the start of this blog post… Infusing authenticity into your marketing isn't a trend. It's a commitment to openness, realness, and building relationships that stand the test of time.
