When it comes to planning and strategizing your marketing, authenticity is the key to your success. All to often, business focus on what they believe the “should” say or “should” focus on, and this can quickly steer you in a direction you don’t want to go.

But what does authenticity in your marketing look like? 

Believe it or not, it has little to do with showcasing a flawless facade; it's more and more about simply being transparent, honest, and relatable.

Think about the businesses and brands you encounter in your day to day life. Are you more likely to connect with and trust the ones who are polished and impersonal? Probably not. We all have stories about how these brands have mislead us and so we are a lot less trusting than we used to be. Which is just one of the reasons why today, we crave genuine connections with real people–simply being transparent, honest, and relatable.

As buyers, we are done being sold to and done buying into the glossy ads and cookie-cutter campaigns. We want more. We want a connection, a vibe, a brand we can relate to. And we want to invest in someone we can trust.

You are building trust with your audience and this my friend is often what turns one-time buyers into die-hard fans.

So how do you infuse authenticity into your marketing? Let’s take a look at three ways to approach this. 

Transparency: Why Transparency Matters

The simple truth is that transparency builds trust. In an age where we are all craving authentic connections, being open about your processes, values, and yes, even mistakes, demonstrates integrity. 

It shows that you have nothing to hide and are committed to an honest relationship with your customers. And by not portraying a facade of perfection, you are also making yourself more relatable to your audience. 

How to Infuse Transparency

Let me say it again... Be open and honest. There is no reason to pretend you are something you are not, and being open and honest is also going to help you set clear boundaries.

By setting clear boundaries you are communicating with the audience how you operate, while also creating a solid foundation on which you can build your business on. 

If you make a mistake, own up to it and communicate how you're addressing it. We all make mistakes, and from my own experience, it is the mistakes I have made that have made my business and myself stronger. Learn from the moment, share openly, and move forward.

There are a lot of ways to share a look behind-the-scenes, and one of the best platforms to do this is through your social media accounts. Through social media you can showcase the culture, values, and quirks that make your business unique. This adds authenticity and helps in building a community around your brand.
