Episode Summary:
Today I want to talk about the mindset hurdle that keeps so many solo entrepreneurs stuck... waiting to feel “ready.” I am sharing five clear signs that it’s time to take that next step, even if your confidence hasn’t caught up yet, and what it means to uplevel on your terms.
We will also be talking about why fear will always tag along for the ride (and why that’s okay), and how to move forward in your business even when things aren’t perfectly lined up. So if you’ve been circling that idea, itching for more, or feeling just a little too comfortable, grab your favorite mug and let’s talk about why you’re more ready than you think.
What I hope you take away from today's episode...
- You don’t need to feel 100% ready to take the next step. Being ready and willing is enough.
- Outgrowing your comfort zone is a sign that it’s time to grow.
- That idea that keeps circling your brain? It’s not random. It’s a nudge.
- Feeling stuck, bored, or restless isn’t failure. It’s an invitation to explore something new.
- You don’t need a big, flashy launch to uplevel. Small, aligned steps count just as much.
- There’s no “right way” to grow your business. Your way is the right way.

Have you been thinking, dreaming, or even planning to move to the next level in your business, but something keeps holding you back? Maybe you're telling yourself you’re not ready. Maybe you're waiting for a sign or a perfect moment that just hasn’t come yet.
Today’s conversation is all about that: helping you recognize why you might be holding back… even when you don’t need to be. I’m sharing five signs that will help you know if you’re actually ready to move forward.
Grab a cup of coffee, find your favorite spot, and let’s talk about what it really takes to do this thing solo.
Hello my friends! Welcome back to The Solo Grind. I’m so excited to be wrapping up July with each and every one of you, and I’m really looking forward to today’s conversation, because it’s all about moving forward, even when you’re not sure you’re ready.
Sometimes we know we’re ready. But still… we hold back. That’s okay, too.
What I’ve seen happen a lot, especially with solo business owners is that we wait for this magic moment. When everything’s aligned. When it’s crystal clear we must move forward. But real talk? That moment rarely shows up how we expect.
As solo entrepreneurs, we don’t have a team standing with us, cheering us on. We might have great people in our lives, but they don’t always understand the weight of the decisions we make or what’s really at stake for us. That’s a unique challenge we face.
So today, I want to talk about that feeling and why we wait to feel “ready.” I’m going to share five signs that you might already be ready to move forward, even if you don’t feel it. And finally, we’ll talk about what it means to uplevel on your own terms.
But first, if we haven’t met yet... hi! I’m Teresa, the original Caffeine Creative and your host here on The Solo Grind. By day, I help solo entrepreneurs with branding and website design so they can show up online in a way that feels genuine, clear, and confident.
If that sounds like something you’re looking for, you can check out my website at caffeinecreative.io, or scroll down to the show notes and connect with me by text, email, or consult. I’d love to chat.
Let’s talk about why we wait to feel ready.
There’s this myth that when it’s time, we’ll just know. That everything will line up perfectly, the timing will be obvious, the universe will send a giant neon sign…
And sometimes, yes, those intuitive nudges show up loud and clear. But more often than not, we’re ready to move forward long before we actually do it.
What’s really holding us back?
Most of the time, it’s fear.
It might show up as perfectionism. People-pleasing. Impostor syndrome. That thought that says, “I just need to take one more course... learn one more thing... get a little more polished.”
But at its core... it’s fear. Fear of being seen. Fear of failing. Fear of what others might think.
Fear is normal. It’s part of being human. But it doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck.
So if you’re feeling stuck… and you’re framing it as “not quite ready yet” let me give you five signs that you might actually be ready to move forward:
1. You’ve outgrown your current comfort zone.
Everything feels easy. Predictable. A little too familiar. You’ve mastered where you are, and now you’re feeling a little bored. Maybe even a little restless. That craving for something more is a powerful clue. Growth often starts with discomfort.
2. You keep circling the same idea.
That offer you keep brainstorming? The podcast you’ve been dreaming of? The event you want to host? That idea keeps following you around when you’re walking the dog, doing dishes, trying to sleep.
When something keeps coming back like that… it might be time to do something about it.
3. You’re cheering everyone else on to do the thing you want to do.
You’re telling your clients or friends, “You’ve got this! Go for it!” But deep down, you’re wondering why you’re not doing the same. That’s a sign it might be your turn.
4. You feel frustrated, bored, or stuck.
Even if you can’t name what “the next thing” is… the fact that you feel stuck tells you something. It might be time to shake things up and try something new.
Entrepreneurs thrive on challenge and possibility. That stuck feeling? It could be the beginning of a breakthrough.
5. You know you’re not 100% ready, but you’re willing to try anyway.
This is a big one. Nobody ever feels 100% ready. And that’s okay. If you’re willing to try, even if it’s messy or imperfect or a total experiment—that means you’re ready enough.
Just like I did with this podcast. I didn’t know the best format, or gear, or platform. I just decided to try. And here we are, almost a year later... and it’s working out better than I imagined.
If you’re still not sure you’re ready, go check out my earlier episode this month about what I learned from Steve Sims, the real-life Wizard of Oz. I’ll link it in the show notes. His philosophy? Try it, do it, see what happens. You’ll learn a lot either way.
A quick recap of the five signs you’re ready:
- You’ve outgrown your current comfort zone
- You keep circling the same idea
- You’re helping others do what you want to do
- You’re feeling frustrated, bored, or stuck
- You’re willing to try, even if you’re not 100% ready
Now, one last thing before we wrap this up... let’s talk about upleveling on your own terms.
Just because you can grow doesn’t mean you have to grow in the way everyone else is.
I’ve been there. I built a business that didn’t quite feel right… and I spent a whole year ungrowing it. Now I’m back in my sweet spot where things feel aligned, and the way I work actually works for me.
Upleveling doesn’t have to mean going viral. Or launching a giant course. Or a full rebrand.
It might be launching a quiet new service you’ve had on your heart. Raising your prices. Shifting your brand voice. Saying no to things that no longer fit.
There’s no one-size-fits-all formula. No checklist. No magic 10-step system.
Upleveling on your terms means doing what’s right for you, for the right reasons.
And if it doesn’t work? You’ve learned something. You can pivot, tweak, change direction. You don’t need permission.
So my friend, don’t wait for the fear to go away. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect. You’re already brave enough. If you’ve been looking for a sign… this is it.
You’re ready.
Thanks so much for tuning in. I’ll see you right back here next week on The Solo Grind.
