If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I always have plenty to say about branding. And honestly? It’s worth saying again. Because there’s a lot of noise out there about “building a brand,” and I want to cut through it for you with something simple and doable.
Key #1: You are your brand
Sure, there are logos, fonts, and colors that go into branding, but at the core? Your brand is how people perceive you.
That includes:
☕ How you show up
☕ How you package your services
☕ The vision you have for your business
☕ The content you share on your site and social
See the theme? You are your brand.
Before you spend time designing a logo or printing business cards, get clear on who you want to be perceived as. Ask yourself:
☕ What do I want to be known for?
☕ What do I want people to say about me?
☕ How do I want to stand out?
Once you know this, everything else starts to fall into place.
Key #2: Build the visuals around your clarity
Logos and colors aren’t step one—they’re step two. If you jump into design before you’re clear on your identity, you’ll end up picking what looks good on someone else instead of what makes you stand out.
When you’re ready for the visual side, focus on:
☕ Colors that align with how you want people to feel
☕ Fonts that match the tone of your business
☕ Imagery that represents what you do
It doesn’t have to be complicated, but yes, it can feel overwhelming. That’s why I’ve included resources in Solo Grind Central, my free course library, to help you get started without all the guesswork.
Key #3: Pull it all together into something usable
A brand isn’t just an idea—it’s something you use every day. Start pulling your pieces into a simple branding kit you can rely on when opportunities pop up. That might include:
☕ Business cards
☕ Social media templates
☕ Proposals or portfolios
☕ Website copy and visuals
Your kit can be as simple or as polished as you need. The point is to have tools ready so you’re showing up consistently and with confidence.
Starting a business can feel overwhelming, especially when you add in all the creative and tech stuff.
Here is something I want you to remember… You had the idea for a reason. People need what you have to offer, and your brand is simply how you help them see that clearly.
